At the Miami Valley Doberman Pinscher Club’s Memorial Day weekend specialty show on May 24, 2014, Tyson won Best in Specialty Show at 9 1/2 years old from the Veteran Dog class. The judge was Bonnie Clarke.
Tyson loves to show, so every once in a while, I give him the pleasure of going and strutting his stuff in the veteran class. After winning the Veteran Dog class, we went back into a ring filled with young beautiful champions. Several of them are Top 20 Dobermans as well as Best in Show winning. To be in the ring with them was fun and an honor. To keep being considered for an award was also deeply humbling, but Tyson was having a good time, and so was I!
When judge Clarke finally put us on the diagonal along with Best of Winners and a Ch. Protocol’s Veni Vedi Vici, “Fifi”, a female champion, again I was deeply honored. Bonnie spoke to the crowd extolling the virtues of the quality dogs she had to judge, and said it’s rare to find a veteran as sound and in as good of condition as this (meaning Tyson). It was then that I realized we were winning Best of Breed/Best in Specialty Show. She turned and announced we were Best of Breed. I couldn’t help but tear up. To win BISS from the veteran dog class with a dog that means the world to me, it just meant, well, the world to me.
